i.safe Mobile showcases new handheld barcode scanner for 5G smartphones at LogiMAT2025 | Engineer Live

Mar 12, 2025

i.safe Mobile unveiled its new IS-TH2ER.1 at LogiMAT in Stuttgart, with the scanner being the company’s latest development, offering new improvements over previous models. The scanner is suitable for in Zone 1/21 hazardous industrial areas.

New green aiming device along with Zebra SE55 scan engine and IntelliFocus technology enables the scanner to have a large reading range of up to 12 meters, with fast and reliable reading of 1D and 2D barcodes. Scanning tasks can be completed even under difficult conditions such as dirty or damaged codes.

Benedikt Eckert, head of sales Europe at i.safe Mobile, said: “We are delighted to introduce our new product, the IS-TH2ER.1, at two of our partners’ stands at LogiMAT. The IS-TH2ER.1 and our 5G smartphone IS540.1 combine innovation, performance, safety and reliability and are the ideal combination for our customers working in critical and hazardous environments. As with all our product developments, our credo here was to offer our customers an even better solution for their daily challenges.”

There is a range of advantages of the new scanner, including its ability to scan up to 12 meters. Further to this, is its intelligent decoding. PRZM Intelligent Imaging technology and the green aimer allows for improved barcode scanning, regardless of lighting conditions of damage to codes. Green aimer is up to seven times more visible than a red aimer.

The IS540.1 smartphone is inserted into the handheld barcode scanner. The ISM interface securely connects the scanner, so data can be scanned reliably and processed straight away. Power is supplied to the IS-TH2ER.1 via the ISM interface to the IS540.1, meaning the scanner does not require its own power supply.

Several scanning devices can be replaced with just this one solution, with fast and mobile data processing in hazardous industrial areas.

Featuring a 6-inch full HD display, a 48MP camera and a powerful processor, the IS540.1 5G Android smartphone is best suited for multifunctional scanning capabilities. The smartphone is capable of industrial applications such as predictive maintenance and process monitoring.

Other benefits of the IS540 are its replaceable 4400mAh for shift use, a programmable side button for PoC/PTT, and a red button for lone worker protection. Accessories can be attached for the intelligent inspection system for valve leakage (IS-VS1A.1) detection in hazardous areas or the wired Remote Speaker Microphone (SI-RSM3A.1) can be connected using the 16-pin ISM interface on the side.

IS-TH2ER.1 can be used across a range of sectors. In the chemical industry, the scanner can take digital recordings of materials and products that are processed in chemical production, allowing companies to maintain quality. Optimised monitoring and documentation of processes in the oil and gas sector are enabled by reliable and fast barcode scanning.

The pharmaceutical industry benefits from tracking raw materials and products to fulfil the strict regulations for traceability and quality assurance, whilst similar tracking capabilities can be deployed in the food industry when tracking ingredients for safe transport and storage.

Documentation in mining is critical for safety, as each step of the production process must be monitored. Logistics and warehouses can take advantage of the scanning and data capabilities to manage inventory and identify hazardous materials.

Maintenance and inspection can be conducted due to the easy handling and Ex-certified design in the most demanding environments for maintenance and inspection of machines and systems.

Configuration is simple due to the Zebra 123Scan software, which allows for a range of settings and customisations. Customisations include barcode configuration, scan settings, data formatting, audible and visual signals, firmware updates, and customised profiles.

The product is currently being showcased to visitors of LogiMAT Stuttgart at the partner stands of COT, at Hall 2, stand B10 and PriorityID at Hall 2, stand B37.
